The Department of History, Karnatak Arts College, Dharwad is established in the year 1917. We have a great pleasure that Prof. Rowlinson, the First Principal of the College was the Professor of History. Since its inception many distinguished historians and scholars like Prof. G. S. Dixit, Prof. S. Settar, Prof. K. R. Basavaraja, Prof. S. Rajashekhara and others were served the Department. Many of our students graduated from the Department are working as Professor of History in many colleges and more number of students are working as civil services. It is to be great thing that renowned politicians, ministers are also graduated from the Department. Department has its long history, unbroken tradition and memorable heritage.
At present Dr. Jagadeesh Kivadanavar working as Associate Professor and Heading department along with Teaching Assistants.
The department is recognized as research centre, Dr. Jagadeesh Kivudannavar guiding students for Ph. D. Programme.
