The department of Psychology was started in the year 1970 under the headship of Prof. N.A Hanumantha Rao. The subject was introduced for P.U.C & B.A.

The department is housed in its own independent building located to the west of Arts college main building. Psychology is one of the optional subjects right from its introduction in the college. The department is organizing Special Lectures, Study Visits & screening Psychology films, etc.

Vision – “Overall personality development of the students”

Mission: 1. To provide knowledge, skills and achieve human excellence.

Presently there are two Permanent faculty members

 1.Dr (Smt) R.N. Kenchappannavar from 1997 till date
 2.Dr. S.G. Jadhav from 1997 till date

The department also has a permanent peon and one part-time laboratory Assistant on daily wages. At present Smt. Ramavva Ballary is serving as a peon & Mr. Basavaraj M. Kongi as Laboratory Assistant is serving in the department.

Besides teaching, the staff member’s actively take part in research work, publications and writing of books.

AMENITIES

1.Well furnished two lecture halls with a seating capacity of 20-25 students & one independent laboratory.
2.Well maintained department library with good collection of books and journals. The library is kept open during office   hours i.e.11:00 AM to 5:00PM on all the days of the week (expect Sunday and Government holidays).
3.One laboratory with good facilities for practical classes.
4.Most suitable and accessible modern audio-visual devises like, Slide projects, Videos. Tapes, CD, OHP, LCD, Inter-net etc., for   effective teaching.
5.Fairly good and qualitative teaching aids like Charts. Colour T.V & DVD.

FUTURE PLANS

The present society is experiencing high stress:
 a)Diploma in stress management
 b)Diploma in Counseling
 c)Diploma in Personality development

Various social and health problems are emerging. It is very important to overcome these problems. Keeping this in view the department has plans to start the above courses in the next five years.
