The Department of Persian and Urdu is as old as our college itself. It was started in the year 1918 with the appointment of Prof. A. M. Moulvi as Lecturer. Mr. A. M. Khatib joined as assistant lecturer in 1920. Pass course in Persian & Urdu was introduced in 1920. Honour course in Persian was Introduced in 1921-22

            In 1958 when the college was taken over by the Karnatak University, the Dept. was adequately staffed to be able to introduce the new 3year degree course.

 

            During 1968-69 Urdu was introduced as Major subject for the under Graduate courses and during 1970-71 principal subject at the post graduate level.

 

            The Post-Graduate Department was shifted to the University campus in July, 1997 till then  the P. G. Department was housed in Karnatak College.

            The dept offers Urdu as Basic & optional Subject to BA/BSC/B. Com/BSW students.

            Some of the achievers of our department are M. M. Khaji (retired Munsif), Dr. A. M. Pathan (former Vice Chancellor of KUD), Dr. A. M. Jamadar, etc.

Objectives & activities of the Urdu study circle Bazm-E-adab

            The Dept of Urdu has an active study circle named as Bazm-e-Adab.the academic activities of the Dept. are conducted through the study circle. On rotation basis the senior teacher from the Dept. is appointed as chairperson who looks after the activities of the academic year.

            Bazam-E-adab conduct activities such as debate, Elocution, Quiz, Bait-Bazi, pick & speak, Essay writing competition, etc regularly with an intention to provide better stage for students to enhance the knowledge and communication skills. The certificates and prizes are given to the winners in the valedictory function.
